How well is the Brady Act Working?

I looked at a report put up by Legal Community Against Violence which advocates for gun control. This report is 2005 California Report: Recent Developments in Federal, State and Local Gun Laws February it gives some statistics on gun related violence injuries and deaths. It also goes into how the Brady Act, which is the most recent gun control act which establishing a limited system of background checks for gun purchasers and the federal assault weapon ban. There is a major loophole also in this Brady Act in that only the requires federally licensed dealers to do background checks on the buyer, but the loophole is that private sellers do not have to do background checks when they sell guns to buyers. All though I am an avid hunter I think that this loophole needs to be fixed. Here is the link so you can check out some of the statistics in the article http://www.lcav.org/library/reports_analyses/2005_California_Report.pdf.
